Photo sharing platform 500px has suffered a data breach exposing user data of around 15 million customers.
According to notification published by the company, an unauthorized attacker gained access to their system and stole partial user data on July 5, 2018. But the breach was discovered by the company only on February 8, 2019.
“On February 8, 2019, our engineering team became aware of a potential security issue affecting certain user profile data. We immediately launched a comprehensive review of our systems to understand the nature and scope of the issue.”
The user data exposed include:
- First and last name
- Username of your 500px account
- Email id associated with your 500px account
- Password Hash
- Birthdate, gender and address information
All users registered prior to July 5, 2018, will be affected by the breach which is around 14.8 million users.
The investigation is still ongoing, as of now there is no evidence of any unauthorized access to your account. The company also confirmed other data associated with the user profile was not affected by the breach.
The company said they have notified law and enforcement authorities about the incident and also started notifying affected users via email.
The company has requested all 500px users to reset their password as a precautionary measure. users are also advised to change the password of other accounts if you use the same password
